Solano Outlasts Clovis in Five-Set Thriller to Advance in Playoffs

The Solano College Falcons battled through a gritty five-set showdown to defeat Clovis 3–2 in the first round of the 3C2A Northern California playoffs on November 22 at home. In front of an energized Solano crowd, the Falcons found their rhythm late and surged to a decisive fifth-set victory, taking the match 25–22, 17–25, 22–25, 25–20, 15–9.

Solano started the night strong behind disciplined serving and timely attacking, edging out the opening set 25–22. Clovis answered with steady offense in sets two and three, hitting .250 and .130, respectively, to take a 2–1 lead and place the Falcons in a must-win situation.

With the season on the line, Solano responded with its best volleyball of the night. The Falcons dominated the fourth set offensively, hitting a match-high .417. Aliyah Aguiar powered the comeback with a team-leading 19 kills and .341 hitting, while also adding 3 aces to finish with a match-best 23 points.

Setter Kaylie Reyes delivered a standout all-around performance, recording 12 kills, 18 assists, and 4 service aces. Her aggressive playmaking kept Clovis off balance and fueled Solano’s late-match surge. Giana Guintu also played a key role with 8 kills, 18 assists, and a team-high 25 digs to anchor the defense.

Solano carried that momentum into the decisive fifth set. Efficient hitting (.286) and tough serving allowed the Falcons to take control early and never look back, sealing the 15–9 win and the match.

Additional contributions came from Lilli Mass with 10 kills and steady play at the net, while libero Makenzie Lovell delivered 20 digs and two aces. Defensively, Ashlee Conley and the front line combined for eight block assists to slow the Clovis attack.

For Clovis, Juliana Sanchez led the Cougars with 17 kills, while Jordan Salinas and Lyric Garcia added 12 and 10, respectively. Despite strong stretches, Clovis was held to .000 hitting in the final set as Solano’s defense tightened.

With the victory, Solano advances to the second round of postseason play, showcasing resilience, depth, and composure in a pressure-filled match. The Falcons will travel Tuesday 11/25 to Taft College to face #2 Taft College.
