Solano Volleyball defeated by Hartnell and Delta College
Hartnell Edges Solano in Five-Set Thriller to Open Season
Fairfield, CA – August 22, 2025
The 2025 volleyball season opened with a battle at Solano College on Friday afternoon, where Hartnell outlasted the Falcons in a five-set nail-biter, 3–2 (25–16, 18–25, 25–17, 23–25, 15–6).
It was a match of momentum swings, with each side trading control before Hartnell found its rhythm late in the deciding set to secure the win.
Set One belonged to Hartnell, who came out sharp offensively with a .400 hitting percentage, led by outside hitter Kira Krueger and middle Norma Tulua. Solano struggled to find consistency, finishing the frame with more errors than kills as the Panthers rolled, 25–16.
The Falcons bounced back in Set Two, behind the setting of Giana Guintu and Kaylie Reyes’ balanced play at the net. Solano hit .240 in the set, limiting errors while spreading the offense to even the match at 1–1.
Hartnell regained the edge in the third, capitalizing on Solano’s 12 attack errors. Tulua was dominant in the middle, finishing with 8 kills and 8 total blocks in the match, as the Panthers regained the lead with a 25–17 win.
In Set Four, Solano showed resilience, with Reyes and Guintu combining for 19 total points across the night. Aliyah Aguiar contributed nine kills while Jasmine Ting and Kyra Ierome steadied the Falcons’ serve receive. Solano hit an impressive .353 in the frame, pulling out a tight 25–23 win to force a fifth.
But in the final set, Hartnell’s balance was too much. Behind strong serving from Sofia Luna and clutch swings from Soniyah King and Krueger, the Panthers jumped ahead early and never looked back, sealing the match with a 15–6 finish.
San Joaquin Delta Sweeps Solano in Evening Match
Fairfield, CA – August 22, 2025
After a hard-fought five-set battle earlier in the day, Solano College returned to the court Friday evening against perennial power San Joaquin Delta, falling in straight sets, 3–0 (25–18, 25–12, 25–17).
The Mustangs’ offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .414 as a team, led by Hadlee Gray’s dominant 18 kills on a .424 clip. Mia Alomia (7 kills, .400) and Karlie Spencer (5 kills, .556) provided balance at the net, while setter Paige Taylor orchestrated the attack with 39 assists. Delta also controlled the net defensively, tallying 16 block assists to disrupt Solano’s rhythm.
For the Falcons, Giana Guintu was a bright spot with 5 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, 11 assists, and a match-high 20 digs. Kaylie Reyes chipped in 7 kills and 8 digs, while Lilliana Mass added 4 kills and a service ace. Despite their effort, Solano was limited to just a .069 hitting percentage across the three sets, struggling against Delta’s size and blocking presence.
After dropping the first set 25–18, Solano battled in the second but was overpowered by Delta’s efficient hitting and serving run that led to a lopsided 25–12 frame. In the third, the Falcons found more offensive rhythm, hitting .194 behind Reyes and Guintu, but Delta closed strong to finish the sweep 25–17.
The Falcons (0–2) showed resilience throughout a tough opening day doubleheader and will look to build on the experience as the season progresses.
