Memorial Service Held for Women's Tennis Player
Fairfield, Calif. - The memorial service for Solano tennis player Victoria Alvarez was held over the weekend. Alvarez was one of the Falcon tennis players who was tragically killed on February 20 following an accident at Bodega Bay.
The 19-year-old athlete was swept into the ocean at Schoolhouse Beach near Bodega Bay, along with two others. Those two made it to shore, but Alvarez did not. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter lifted her from the water, but she could not be revived.
During her memorial service, head women's tennis coach Jordan Walker said: “She was a light in this world. I hope you all will carry her light with you. . . I know she inspired me to be a better person.”
“There wasn’t a day that would go by where she wouldn’t want to hang out with us (teammates), she cared that much about the team and the family we had grown to become,” said Solano tennis teammate Tristan Apilado.
“She could turn your day from bad to good in an instant,” said fellow Solano tennis teammate JD Bobo. “She could always see the good in every person and in every situation.”
