Bio
Makayla was named as the head coach for both indoor and Beach volleyball fall of 2026, replacing Darla Williams.
 
Makayla “MJ” Johnson joined the Solano Women’s Volleyball coaching staff part-time in 2018 right after playing for coach Darla Williams in 2016 and 2017. She came on board as a full-time assistant coach in the fall of 2021.
 
She has played 11 years of competitive volleyball and has assisted with Solano College summer camps in the summers since 2018. She has assisted on local club teams at Xceleration in 2017, as well as, Club Solano in 2024. Not only has MJ been a coach alongside Coach Darla Williams, but she is also the academic mentor for Solano’s Women’s Volleyball program (indoor and beach), helping the volleyball student-athletes reach their academic goals. The Team achieved the Bay Valley Conference Scholar Team of the Year Award for their fall 2024 strong academics (Team GPA was 3.67) as well as fall 2025 (Team GPA was 3.54).
 
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Sacramento State in 2022 in Kinesiology with the concentration on Physical Education, Conditioning, and Coaching.
 
She is the proud mother of her now 4-year-old son Malakai Blanco.
