The Solano College beach volleyball team notched a hard-fought 3–2 victory over De Anza College, showcasing grit and consistency across a series of closely contested matches.
Match 1: Guintu/Reyes (SOL) def. Cakisic/Bell (De Anza), 21–10, 21–17
Solano’s duo of Guintu and Reyes set the tone early with a dominant performance. Controlling the tempo from start to finish, they used sharp serving and effective court coverage to take both sets convincingly.
Match 2: Davis/Projillo (SOL) def. Alper/Quach (De Anza), 21–19, 21–13
In match two, Davis and Projillo found their rhythm late in the first set and never looked back. After edging out a tight opener, Solano’s pair tightened their defense and pulled away decisively in the second frame to give SOL a 2–0 lead in the dual.
Match 3: Barajas/Balderas (De Anza) def. Ting/Mass (SOL), 13–21, 21–17, 15–9
De Anza responded in the third match. Though Ting and Mass came out strong and claimed the opening set, Barajas and Balderas adjusted with consistent passing and smart shot placement to rally back for the three-set victory.
Match 4: Ierome/Lovell (SOL) def. Velazquez/Dalzachio (De Anza), 16–21, 21–17, 16–14
The day’s most thrilling match came from Ierome and Lovell, who overcame a slow start to stage a dramatic comeback win. After dropping the first set, the Solano duo battled through a back-and-forth second and edged out a nail-biting third to secure the dual-clinching point for Solano.
Match 5: Sugrue/Braceros (De Anza) def. Asuncion/Caliboso (SOL), 21–8, 21–15
De Anza closed the day strong as Sugrue and Braceros handled the final match in straight sets, capitalizing on consistent serving and aggressive net play.
Final Result: Solano 3, De Anza 2
With the win, Solano continues to build momentum midseason, combining resilience in tight sets with early-match dominance from their top pairs. De Anza showed depth and determination, pushing several matches to the wire despite the narrow defeat.
Solano defeats Lassen 4-1
In an exciting beach volleyball showdown, Solano came out on top against Lassen, winning four of the five matches in a competitive team dual.
Solano set the tone early in the No. 1 matchup as Guintu/Reyes battled back after dropping the first set to Keim/Crosno. Lassen opened strong with a 21-15 win, but Solano responded decisively, taking the next two sets 21-7 and 15-11 to secure the comeback victory.
The momentum continued in the second pairing, where Daivs/Projillo delivered a straight-sets win over Lott/Dechambeau, 21-17, 21-7. After a tight first set, SOL pulled away in the second to give their team a 2-0 advantage.
Lassen answered in the third match as Medina/Platz earned a 21-12, 21-19 win over Ting/Mass. Despite a late push from Solano in the second set, Lassen held on to put their first point on the board.
Solano quickly regained control in the fourth pairing. Ierome/Lovell handled Mumm/Howe in straight sets, 21-14, 21-11, extending Solano's lead and clinching the team victory.
In the final match of the day, Asuncion/Caliboso capped the performance with a hard-fought 22-20, 21-17 win over Overcash/Williams. The opening set was tightly contested, but Solano executed down the stretch and carried that momentum into the second set to finish the dual strong.
With the 4-1 team victory, Solano showcased depth and resilience, bouncing back from early pressure and closing out key moments to secure a convincing win over Lassen.
