Solano College battled through a tightly contested matchup to earn a 3-2 victory over Cosumnes River, showcasing resilience and clutch performances across the lineup.
The Falcons set the tone early at the top spot, as the duo of Guintu and Reyes secured a straight-sets win, 21-19, 21-19, over Hoffman and Patterson. The narrow margins reflected the competitive nature of the match, but Solano capitalized on key points late in each set to take control.
At the No. 2 position, Davis and Projillo delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day. The pair cruised to a 21-14, 21-15 victory against Belnap and Williams, giving Solano a strong advantage in the team score.
Cosumnes River responded at the No. 3 spot, where Amen and Snow defeated Ierome and Mass in straight sets, 21-17, 21-8, cutting into the Falcons’ lead.
The decisive moment came in the No. 4 matchup, as Calvelo and Ting fought through a three-set battle to clinch the team victory for Solano. After taking the opening set 21-17, the Falcons dropped the second 13-21 before regrouping to win the final set 15-13 in dramatic fashion.
Cosumnes River added another point at the No. 5 position, with Fetzer and Rios defeating Conley and Lovell 21-19, 21-13, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Solano’s early success.
With the 3-2 win, Solano continues to build momentum, demonstrating depth and composure in close matches as the season progresses.
Solano Falls in Narrow 3-2 Battle Against Folsom Lake
Solano College came up just short in a tightly contested matchup, falling 3-2 to Folsom Lake on Friday morning at the Hawk Beach Courts in Sacramento.
The Falcons struggled to find momentum early, dropping the top matchup as Guintu and Reyes fell in straight sets, 21-12, 21-17, to Lutsiv and Vorster.
Solano responded at the No. 2 position with a strong performance from Davis and Projillo. After taking the opening set 21-17, the duo dropped the second 15-21 but regrouped to dominate the निर्णing third set 15-11, earning a key point for the Falcons.
Folsom Lake regained control at the No. 3 spot, where Ierome and Mass were edged in two competitive sets, 21-19, 21-16, by Quintanar and Triplett.
Another close battle unfolded at the No. 4 position, as Calvelo and Ting pushed the match to three sets. After dropping the first set 16-21, they answered with a 21-19 win in the second before falling 15-10 in the निर्णing set to Ayers and Pham.
With the dual on the line, Conley and Lovell delivered a gritty performance at the No. 5 spot. The pair rallied after a tough first set loss (22-20) to win the next two sets 21-19 and 15-6, securing Solano’s second team point.
