Solano Defeats Santa Rosa, but, falling 3-2 to Delta’s depth in a tightly contested beach volleyball matchup.
Solano delivered a strong all-around performance to secure a 4-1 victory over Santa Rosa in Big 8 conference beach volleyball action on Friday.
The Falcons set the tone early at the top spot, where Guintu/Reyes earned a solid straight-sets win over Davis/Comma, 21-17, 21-17. Solano extended its lead at No. 2, as Davis/Projillo battled through a three-set thriller, 28-30, 21-13, 15-8, showing resilience after dropping a tightly contested opening set.
At No. 3, Mass/Ierome added another point for Solano with a hard-fought three-set victory over Brooner/Walker, 21-14, 7-21, 15-7, giving the Falcons control of the dual.
Santa Rosa picked up its lone point at the No. 4 position, where Mendoza/Krohn held off Ting/Calvelo in straight sets, 23-21, 21-12.
Solano closed out the match at No. 5, with Conley/Lovell securing a 21-16, 21-12 win over McIninch/Seidler to seal the 4-1 team victory.
Delta struck first at the No. 1 position, where Gray/Beers outlasted Guintu/Reyes in a three-set battle, 21-10, 29-31, 15-11. Solano quickly responded at the No. 2 spot as Davis/Projillo delivered a dominant straight-sets win, 21-11, 21-14, to even the dual.
The Falcons gained momentum at No. 3, with Mass/Ierome edging Silva/Yarbrough in back-to-back nail-biters, 22-20, 22-20, giving Solano a 2-1 advantage.
Delta answered emphatically on the lower courts. At No. 4, Singh/Zamudio controlled play throughout for a 21-13, 21-4 win, tying the match. The Mustangs then sealed the dual at No. 5, as Beers/Lung defeated Conley/Lovell in straight sets, 21-11, 21-15.
Despite strong performances in the middle courts, Solano came up just short as Delta secured the 3-2 team victory.
